We all love listening to ghost stories; but how do you feel about taking a walk through a real ghost town? Interested? Then Cerro Gordo, an erstwhile mining town in California, is just for you!
Spanish for ‘fat hill’, Cerro Gordo was once a thriving mining operation, with rich veins of silver running through the region. The mines eventually shut down after a series of setbacks, leaving behind the skeletal remains of a once bustling township—your ‘Ghost Town’!
Cerro Gordo is currently privately owned and is being preserved for its historical importance. Some of the original buildings still remain. So if you were to visit the place, you would come across the General Store, an Assay Office, a hotel, even a saloon! (You might even meet the Lone Ranger there!)
This little slice of the ‘Wild, Wild West’ is up for sale. Are you planning on buying a house? Why not go ahead and buy the whole town instead? Your very own ‘Ghost Town’?
