Robert Downey Jr, Marvel’s Iron Man, announced his new initiative called Footprint Coalition which sure does sound like something his character, Tony Stark would come up with. The ultimate purpose of the initiative is to clean the planet with advanced robotics and nanotechnology. This year’s re:MARS technology conference, hosted by Amazon’s CEO Jeff Bezos, discussed how robotics and AI could reverse destructive carbon footprints.
In a report by Forbes, Downey said that he got the idea after having a dinner conversation with a group of experts. “Between robotics and nanotechnology we could probably clean up the planet significantly, if not entirely, within a decade,” he said. Downey plans to officially launch the project by April 2020. Additional details with regard to the Coalition has not been revealed yet. Shortly after the announcement, a website was produced which had a simple sign-up sheet where you could sign up for an email newsletter. Downey Jr openly says that he doesn’t only want to be a part of the solution because he has been a part of the problem as well. “I have this quiet sense of crisis,” he said at the event. “I’m a one-man carbon footprint nightmare colossus.”
