A pair of hackers used a method to hijack thousands of Google Chromecast devices which has been made very clear. A tool called Crashcast had been uploaded to Github on Thursday. This tool allows an immediate takeover of all the streaming devices of Chromecast which are left to access online by mistake.
The hacker duo Hacker Giraffe and j3ws3r took advantage of this same misconfiguration earlier this week to telecast a message which is supportive of PewDiePie. Initially the prank was only to bring attention to the fact that several Chromecast devices were left unnecessarily exposed globally.
Hacker Giraffe wrote on Pastebin that the fear of getting caught and prosecuted was causing all kinds of fears and panic attacks. He also added that he just wanted to inform people of their vulnerable devices while supporting a YouTuber he liked. He never meant any harm, nor did he ever have any ill intentions.
