India Lags Behind in Data Protection Laws

Mysore Police Commissioner Dr. Subramanyeshwara Rao pointed out at a seminar on ‘Cybersecurity and Privacy – Technical and Legal Compliance’, that India is still lagging behind when it comes to laws protecting against breach of data by media or individuals.

The seminar organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in collaboration with Software Technology Parks of India (STPI), the Ministry of Electronics and IT, Government of India, was conducted on Thursday on the Infosys campus. Dr Rao stated that law enforcement agencies have to gear up for better digitization, dealing with privacy breaches at the media and individual level. Better legal and technical compliance to counter data theft is needed as more and more digitization takes place. Topics such as ‘Cybersecurity Law to Cyber-Trends, Breaches and Dark Web’ and ‘Indian Privacy Law – New Challenges for Compliance’ were addressed. The Vice-Chairman of CII Mysore Bhaskar Kale was also one of the speakers.
