Expansion of North Dakota’s IT Cybersecurity Due To Bill

The proposed legislation would provide power to regulate, oversee, and advise to the Information Technology Department for lower levels of government hoping to improve security across the state. Government Doug Burgum has prioritized cybersecurity in his budget vision and the law makers in North Dakota began to engage into the topic Friday.

A testimony was heard by the Senate Political Subdivisions Committee heard testimony on Senate Bill 2110, which would interpret cybersecurity in state law and provide responsibility to the state information technology department to regulate, oversee, and advise cybersecurity strategy for the public entities and state agencies such as school districts, counties, cities, and higher education.

Dan Sipes, “I think the hope of this bill is that we take the collaborative work we’ve been doing, extend that to a wider set of people and try to create common standards, guidelines, tool sets, practices and have this singular strategy everybody can grab on to and then figure out how they get to meeting that standard and that strategy.”
