Exo Shelter
By Srinka Datta Roy

Nature, or rather Nature’s fury, is a great leveller. Ever so often we receive ‘reminders’ of the great dangers our planet is capable of unleashing. One such ‘reminder’ was Hurricane Katrina in 2005, which created havoc in USA.

It was the catastrophic aftermath of this hurricane that led to the creation of the Exo Shelter. Created by US-based Reaction Housing, this two-piece, lightweight mobile shelter was originally planned as a shelter for the disaster-affected people.

Michael McDaniel, Reaction’s founder, prefers to see his ‘customers’ as guests, and has provided for them accordingly. These ‘shelters’, which look like something out of a Star Wars movie, can double as sleeping, living or office areas.

Probably the best feature of the Exo Units is that they can be stacked and transported easily and quickly, thus minimising delays in relief efforts.

If you are wondering whether you have to wait for disaster to strike to use these units, the answer is “No!” The shelters are widely being used as temporary accommodation for offices, music festivals and campsites.

So, when is your next camping trip?
