When 380,000 British Airways Customers Lost Their Privacy

British Airways, the largest U.K airline, has recently suffered a massive data theft due to a breach of privacy, leading to about 380,000 customers losing their personal and financial information. Information was stolen both from the B.A website as well as their mobile app.

Magecart uses a range of digital card skimmers to enable theft of information. The moment a user hits the submit button to his payment form, the information gets redirected to the hacker’s server. A simple set of 22 lines of Javascript was enough to steal the personal information of over 380,000 B.A customers. The original script was modified to incorporate the compromised script.
