Santiago Lopez, a 19-year old hacker, made around 1 million dollars during his journey of finding and reporting weaknesses in online and software services. Santiago joined the bug bounty crowdfunding platform HackerOne in 2015. He reported over 1,670 separate bugs which had affected products provided by vendors including Automatic, WordPress, Twitter, and Verizon Media Company. He has also reported the amount of damage white hat bug bounty hunters are capable of. The hacker spoke about how proud he was to finally have his work valued and recognized. He says, “Not just financially, but because his achievement represents the information of companies and people being more secure than they were before, and that is incredible.” He is assured that anyone who discovers bug bounty programs, will soon realize that it paves way for new opportunities for both hackers and companies who are committed to security.
